Can my own words destroy me?

You have noticed those people who say, “I get sick every time people in the office get sick,” or “I catch every little virus that goes around;” Aren’t they always sick? And what about those who say, “I never have enough money,” or “by the time I get paid, I have already spent all my money;” aren’t they always short of money? Let me tell you, it is not a coincidence. Your spoken words are very powerful.

It is only when we know that our words have power that we really strive to control what we say, because we know that there are consequences.

Those consequences can be in our favor or against us. That is to say, these consequences can be a blessing, but they can also be a curse for our lives.

Our thoughts guide our actions, and our actions determine our present and our future. So, there is a direct connection between our thoughts and our reality. You may be asking yourself, how does this happen? The answer is simple: what is in your mind, sooner or later, will come out through your mouth; and what comes out of your mouth, sooner or later, will materialize in your life.

It is important to clarify that I am not talking about New Age belief systems that encourage positive thinking and positive confession. I am not talking about the so-called “law of attraction” either. All of these, including the Silva method, hypnosis and others, are evil practices disguised as “relaxation methods” and we should not lend our ears to them or partake of them in any form. Though these New Age activities may seem innocent, they are fundamentally satanic and therefore very dangerous. Part of the reason for this is because many exercises call for the person to “empty their mind,” making them susceptible and open to receiving demonic influences. Our mind cannot be blank; instead, it must be alert at all times and be continuously filled with the Word of God.

The power of our words is validated in the Bible.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Proverbs 18:21

“If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.”

1 Peter 3:10 NLT

Scripture tells us clearly that our spoken words have the power to kill and to give life, that is, to destroy something or to produce something. Therefore, if we want to see good things happen, then we must restrain and control our tongue.

Scripture also tells us about the power of agreement:

“I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you.”

Matthew 18:19

The power of agreement is a biblical principle that, when used wisely, will give us wonderful results.

The law of agreement says that when two or more agree on something, it will be done.

In Matthew 18:19 Jesus tells us to be in agreement with God. To agree with God means to agree with His Word. But it is also important to note that we can be in agreement with the forces of evil and that will be done as well.

Our tongue has the power to create and to destroy and the power of agreement works for both good and evil. So, when a person says, “I get sick when people I work with get sick,” that person is using the power of his tongue to create the sickness in his body. Moreover, he is activating the power of agreement, linking his confession with the forces of evil since that confession is contrary to the word of God. Scripture, according to 1 Peter 2:24, says that “we are healed by the wounds of Christ” and that He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.”

I must confess that learning these principles was not easy for me; I was accustomed to talking without thinking too much about what I said. It took a lot of effort.
